Immediate Dentures Q & A

  • What are immediate dentures?

Immediate dentures are placed into your mouth on the same day your teeth are extracted.

Many people choose immediate dentures to achieve a great smile right away. Your bone and tissue will still need to heal after your surgical extractions, but you can wear your immediate dentures throughout each day while the healing process takes place.

  • Am I a good candidate for immediate dentures?

While immediate dentures may have many perks, they’re not for everyone.

The most positive aspect of immediate dentures is that you will have teeth immediately following your extractions. This option will allow the patient to begin learning new speech patterns and eating function, while your bone structure and tissue begin the healing process.

The downsides of immediate dentures is that they will need to be adjusted more frequently according to the patients healing process. Due to your immediate dentures being crafted from impressions taken prior to having your natural teeth extracted, the fit may not be as seamless as with conventional dentures.

Discuss your specific needs during your consultation. If needed, we will work with your dentist to coordinate your path from extraction to delivery.

  • What’s the process for getting immediate dentures?

The process begins with a consultation appointment in which we can proceed to take precise impressions your mouth followed by tooth shade and size selection. Once your extractions are complete, the new immediate dentures are fitted.

You will need to follow up with care at our office to adjust the fit. As your bone and tissue heal, their shape will change, and your dentures will shift. A temporary relining material can be used to improve their function.
